TEAM WITH CHRIS AND GABBY ADCOCK Truro and Penwith College have retained their National Badminton Mixed Cup winning both their semi-final and final on Wednesday 3rd May. The College have now won this title 3 times in the past 4 seasons.- Travelling to the Badminton England National Badminton Centre at Milton Keynes on the Tuesday afternoon, the team were well prepared for their two matches the following day. The Team took inspiration after meeting the current European GOLD medalists Chris and Gabby ADCOCK, having literally just returned from their most recent success in Germany. Chris and Gabby are current WORLD no2 Mixed Doubles and National Champions. With a strong team consisting of 2 Senior, 2 U21 and 4 U18 County players, the college took their semi final against Greenhall Sixth Form College 8/2. Sarah Frost playing at no1 singles had a monumental battle against Kate Walker ranked no 10 at U19 National Level. Kate being a top Yorkshire Senior County player. Sarah gave everything but lost 21-12 21-16 having been 11-9 up on the one minute break in the second end .A fantastic effort. In the final the College proved too strong for their opponents from Cirencester Sixth Form College. The winning margin of 9/1 reflecting the strength in depth of the Cornish players.College “player” of the finals goes to Mark Pearson. Mark taking the no1 mens singles slot , winning both his matches in two ends against nationally higher ranked players. Two great long matches that Mark dominated with his power and precision in his shot execution. Both matches a worthy advert for the finals. The Team performance has been exceptional throughout a long hard season defeating Bridgewater, Exeter, St Jospehs (London), Farnborough (Hampshire),before arriving at the finals. All players travelling many miles, and training not only at College twice a week but competing on the National circuit across the country and training at Club and County and representing their County on a weekly basis.TEAM ;DUNCAN COVEY - TRURO BC, CAPT.MARK PEARSON, ELLIOT DYER, CORMAC MILLER, MICHAEL ROBINSON (RESERVE) ALL FIRST EDITION CAMBORNE.KELLEN MOORE - TECANS REDUTH, CAPT.AMY POLGLASE, SARAH FROST BOTH FIRST EDITION, LAURA GALLEY CAMELFORD BC.Coach Jon Wotton.Truro/Penwith College Badminton Academy.
