Home match at Polkyth, 9th December...
The visiting Gloucs team proved too strong for Cornwall, who were without number 1 player James Whetter, but battled to a creditable 11-4 defeat. Division 3 is proving a challenging step up for the young team, but at their current rate of improvement in this division, they have the game to take on the top sides and get some good results.
The singles games all went Gloucs' way, although Ross Lashbrook pushed his opponent all the way to 3 ends and only narrowly lost in the end.
Former England international Rebecca Pantaney showed her class throughout the afternoon, and helped the visiting ladies to all their doubles, despite two 3 end battles with both Jo Philp and Rose Willis, and Bronwen Wotton and Vicki Thomas.
In the mens it was a different story, with Cornwall boys putting on a great display of attacking doubles - Tom Lyle and Ross were impressive in winning both of theirs, while Shane Maton and Guy Michell took one and just lost out in the second.
Gloucestershire won the first 2 mixed doubles, and then it was down to Shane and Vicki at number 3 pair to salvage some more pride and extend their unbeaten run by winning in 3 close ends.
Well done to the team who showed a great fighting spirit throughout the match, and now look forward to their next home game versus Somerset, next Sunday 16th December.
